Conhecimento dos Acadêmicos do Curso de Odontologia da USS Sobre os Fatores de Risco para o Câncer Bucal

Abstract

O câncer bucal é uma doença crônica multifatorial, resultante da
interação dos fatores etiológicos que afetam os processos de controle da
proliferação e crescimento celular. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar o
conhecimento dos acadêmicos do Curso de Odontologia da USS, em Vassouras/
RJ, sobre os fatores de risco para o câncer bucal. Os dados foram obtidos por
meio de um questionário estruturado, com questões objetivas sobre o câncer
da cavidade bucal, respondidos pelos discentes regularmente matriculados no
segundo semestre de 2011. A análise dos dados foi feita por meio de estatística
descritiva utilizando o programa SPSS, versão 17.0. Dos 105 participantes,
46,7% classificaram a abordagem pedagógica do curso sobre o tema como boa
e 36,7% julgaram-na insuficiente. Os fatores de risco mais apontados pelos
estudantes foram o tabaco (98,1%) seguido por história familiar de câncer
(81,9%), próteses mal-adaptadas (76,2%) e consumo de álcool (68,6%).
Concluiu-se que 51,4% dos discentes demonstraram possuir um conhecimento
satisfatório sobre Câncer bucal e seus fatores de risco.
