Introduction: Prenatal consultation is essential to promote maternal and fetal health, aims to monitor risk factors and treat possible complications. The presence of a partner during prenatal care brings great benefits, as the man will have the opportunity to receive information regarding the care of the woman and her future child, in addition to transmitting support and security to the pregnant woman. The general objective of the work was to investigate the importance of paternal presence during prenatal consultations, in order to promote the inclusion and active involvement of fathers. Materials and Methods: This is a literature review, which included 12 articles in the study. Results: After analyzing the articles, it was identified that the lack of alternative times in health units, excessive work and cultural issues are the main reasons for partners not attending prenatal appointments. it was found that men with a high level of education have greater adherence to monitoring pregnant women, and this monitoring brings benefits such as: emotional support, a sense of security and strengthening the marital relationship. Discussion: Given the results, the importance of the father in prenatal consultations and also in all monitoring and development of the child is evident. Final considerations: It is up to the health system to provide guidance on the relevance of men's presence in children's, women's and their own health. Strategies such as consultations at times that suit the man's work routine need to be implemented so that he feels welcomed.
