The increase in progressive chronic diseases, as well as the aging of the population, demonstrate the need for attention and strategic approaches for these profiles, such as palliative care (PC). Primary Health Care (PHC) is one of the main pathways through which this population accesses the Unified Health System (SUS), being the organizer of the entire Health Care Network (RAS). The reorganization and reorientation of PHC, as the gateway to SUS, has nursing as a fundamental profession prepared to provide humanized and comprehensive care throughout the network. This work is an integrative review of the literature whose objective is to know what has been published on nursing care in PC in PHC. Searches were conducted in the Embase, Scopus, and Virtual Health Library (BVS) databases between June and July 2024, with a time frame starting in 2017. Two categories emerged from the research: “Advances in nursing as a protagonist in palliative care in Primary Health Care” and “Challenges in academic training and in the work process of Primary Health Care”. The need and importance of Permanent Health Education (EPS) to strengthen the role of nurses was highlighted. There were advances in professional qualification and innovation, such as the proposal to create a new nursing diagnosis, improvement of the care plan, and recognition of nurses as multipliers.
