Introduction: Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that manifests itself through a variety of symptoms, impacting cognition, emotions, and behavior. These symptoms may involve disturbances in perception, reasoning, communication, affect, and attention, among other manifestations. Materials and methods: The integrative review method was adopted to conduct the research. The search for studies began in May 2024 and was subsequently updated in September 2024. The research was carried out in the BDENF, LILACS, SCIELO, and MEDLINE databases, accessed through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), using the descriptors Nursing AND Care AND Schizophrenia. Results: The process of selection/elimination of articles occurred in such a way that titles and abstracts were analyzed, and then the articles were read in full to obtain the final selection of 9 articles. Final considerations: This study highlighted the complexity of mental health nursing care, highlighting the importance of specialized monitoring and the challenges faced by professionals, especially in combating stigma and promoting a humanized approach. The burden on caregivers and the integration of family support were identified as essential for successful treatment. Nursing practice should balance technical knowledge with lived experience, in addition to prioritizing the early identification of physical health problems to ensure more effective and comprehensive treatment.
