Abstract

A capacidade adaptativa dos indivíduos e as medidas preventivas e restauradoras aplicadas permitem aos pacientes manter o maior numero de dentes até idades avançadas; como consequência, uma oclusão com um menor número de dentes passou a ser funcionalmente aceitável. As formas e os procedimentos tradicionais de reposição de dentes posteriores perdidos começarão a ser questionados à medida que o conceito de Arco Dental Reduzido for difundido. Com as próteses fixas convencionais associadas aos conceitos do cantilever e mais recentemente com o advento dos implantes tornou-se possível eliminar alavancas geradas pelas próteses de extremo livre, permitindo a conservação dos dentes pilares. O objetivo deste trabalho é revisar a literatura sobre os aspectos relacionados ao conceito de Arco Dental Reduzido e sua aplicabilidade clínica.
