To this end, Paterson and Zderad's Humanistic Care develops assistance to this individual that goes beyond technical practice and considers all the needs that permeate this illness process. Materials and Method: descriptive-exploratory-qualitative research, carried out in two hemodialysis clinics in southwestern Bahia, with 10 nurses. The collection used: drawing-text-theme and semi-structured interview analyzed using an interactive content analysis model. Results: converged into four categories coinciding with phases of the humanistic model. Discussion: The care process highlights the professional's self-knowledge, intuitive interaction, the use of technical-scientific knowledge, and the transformation of lived experience into shared knowledge. Final considerations: The humanistic lenses reveal the Palliative Care process as an integral and continuous work of the multidisciplinary team, which, based on the established bond, is capable of developing a therapeutic project of shared care with the family.

Keywords: Palliative Care; Renal Dialysis; Nursing, Empathy.
Polliana Bispo Teixeira, Aline Oliveira Rocha, Emanuelle Caires Dias Araújo Nunes Copyright (c) 2025 Polliana Bispo Teixeira, Aline Oliveira Rocha, Emanuelle Caires Dias Araújo Nunes https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5159 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Implementation of the National Policy for Comprehensive Health of the Black Population: Facilitators and Challenges http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5620
Introduction: The 2022 National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) revealed that 56.0% of the Brazilian population self-identifies as Black, and 67.0% of this group relies on the Unified Health System (SUS). In this context, the present study aims to identify the facilitators and challenges observed by the staff of a Basic Health Unit (UBS) regarding the implementation of the National Policy for Comprehensive Health Care of the Black Population (PNSIPN). Methods: This is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study conducted in a UBS located in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, under the jurisdiction of the 13th Regional Health Coordination. Seven professionals participated in semi-structured interviews in September 2023. Professionals with at least six months of service were included, while those on medical leave or vacation were excluded. Content analysis followed the methodology proposed by Laurence Bardin. Results and Discussion: Participants’ professional experience ranged from one year and two months to 17 years, with an average of eight years. One professional identified racism as a factor impacting care delivery, while three cited socioeconomic and physiological factors as facilitators. Only two professionals had superficial knowledge of the PNSIPN, while the others were unaware of it. Three interviewees highlighted the role of social services within the Health Care Networks (RAS), whereas others were unaware of such initiatives. Final Considerations: Ethnic-racial training of healthcare professionals is essential to improve service delivery and strengthen the coordination within the RAS, ultimately enhancing care for the black population.

Keywords: Patient Care Team; Black People; Family Health Strategy; Nurses.
Danieli do Nascimento, Ingre Paz, Luciane Maria Schmidt Alves, Lucas Augusto Hochscheidt, Anelise Miritz Borges Copyright (c) 2025 Danieli do Nascimento, Ingre Paz, Luciane Maria Schmidt Alves, Lucas Augusto Hochscheidt, Anelise Miritz Borges https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5620 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Mental health of women during the gestational period and their experience of pregnancy http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5643
The gestational period represents a phase of significant physical, social and psycho-emotional transitions in a woman's life. This process, although natural, brings with it changes that can directly affect the mental health of the pregnant woman, including positive and negative emotions. This study aimed to understand how the mental health of pregnant women has behaved in relation to planning, prenatal monitoring and support during pregnancy. This is a qualitative, exploratory study conducted with 14 pregnant women in the area covered by a Family Health Unit (FHU) in a city in the interior of Bahia. The information was collected through semi-structured interviews, the final product of which was subjected to analysis using the content analysis technique proposed by Laurence Bardin. The results were organized into three thematic categories: Mental health of pregnant women after discovering a planned, unplanned or unwanted pregnancy, prenatal care and its repercussions on the mental health of pregnant women, and the importance of a support network for the comfort and support of women during pregnancy. It was found that unplanned or unwanted pregnancies are associated with feelings of insecurity, rejection and psychological distress. In addition, prenatal care and the existence of a solid support network were shown to be decisive for the emotional well-being of pregnant women. In this way, the study contributes to the appreciation of a more humanized and comprehensive approach during prenatal care, reinforcing the need for care practices that contemplate women's subjectivity and the promotion of their mental health.

Keywords: Pregnancy; Prenatal Care; Psychoemotional Disorders; Mental health.
Michelle Kristine Bispo dos Santos Lôbo, Táilla Fernanda Sousa de Almeida, Alana Libania de Souza Santos, Vivian Mara Ribeiro, Luma Costa Pereira Peixoto Copyright (c) 2025 Michelle Kristine Bispo dos Santos Lôbo, Táilla Fernanda Sousa de Almeida, Alana Libania de Souza Santos, Vivian Mara Ribeiro, Luma Costa Pereira Peixoto https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5643 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Acute kidney injury in patients admitted to Intensive Care Units http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5534
Objective: To analyze the prevalence and factors associated with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a general hospital in southwestern Bahia. Method: This is a cross-sectional, retrospective and quantitative study of 304 medical records of patients admitted to the ICU between June and September 2024. The data collected included sociodemographic, admission and clinical variables. The Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test and the Student's t-test were used to identify differences in the proportions of variables. Results: the occurrence of AKI was 8.2% (n=25), with the majority of individuals being male (76%) and smokers (28% vs. 10.1%; p=0.016). With regard to clinical conditions and hospitalization complications, patients with AKI stayed in the ICU for longer (11 ± 11 vs. 7 ± 9 days; p=0.040), had a greater demand for invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) (80.0% vs. 51.6%; p=0.005) and a greater need for vasoactive drugs (76.0% vs. 48.7%; p=0.007). In addition, there was a higher prevalence of pressure injuries (44.0% vs. 13.3%; p<0.0001), sepsis (32.0% vs. 7.9%; p=0.001) and cardiac arrest (36.0% vs. 12.2%; p=0.004). Death was more frequent among patients with AKI (52.0% vs. 24.4%; p=0.005). Conclusion: The results indicate that AKI is a significant problem in ICUs and is influenced by smoking, IMV, vasoactive drug use, sedation, LPP, sepsis and CA. Patients with AKI stayed longer in the ICU and had a higher mortality rate.

Keywords: Acute Kidney Injury; Intensive Care Units; Prevalence; Risk Factors.
Saionara da Silva Brito, Bruno Pereira do Prado, Luana Souza Lima Barros, Emanuelle Caires Dias Araújo Nunes, Patrícia da Silva Pires, Juliana Xavier Pinheiro da Cunha Copyright (c) 2025 Saionara da Silva Brito, Bruno Pereira do Prado, Luana Souza Lima Barros, Emanuelle Caires Dias Araújo Nunes, Patrícia da Silva Pires, Juliana Xavier Pinheiro da Cunha https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5534 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Adolescents' Perception of Self-Care in the Context of Cancer http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5632
Introduction: Pediatric cancer is directly related to genetic factors in which cells of the blood system, as well as supporting tissues, are affected. Throughout the treatment of childhood and adolescent cancer, impairments in physical capacity can be observed, along with reduced muscle strength, fatigue, and changes in bodily functions. Given this context, the study aimed to describe adolescents’ perception of self-care in the context of cancer. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach. Data collection took place from August to November 2023. Information was gathered through semi-structured interviews using an instrument developed by the researchers themselves, containing questions for the sociodemographic characterization of participants. Results: Five adolescents aged between 13 and 17 participated in the study, three of whom were female and two male. From data analysis, the following thematic categories emerged: From diagnosis to treatment: feelings and life changes, and Self-care: definitions, perceptions, and experiences from the adolescent’s perspective. Discussion: The diagnosis of a chronic illness during this stage of life leads adolescents to feel even more frustrated with their life expectations, as the illness causes a pause in their goals due to the various changes that occur in their daily lives. Final Considerations: Based on the results, it can be understood that adolescents with cancer have a simplified perception of self-care.

Keywords: Cancer; Adolescent; Treatmen; Self-Care.
Isadora Mandu Cardoso, Jhenicy Rubira Dias, Ivi Ribeiro Back, Thamires Fernandes Cardoso da Silva Rodrigues, Cremilde Aparecida Trindade Radovanovic, Roberta Tognollo Borotta Uema Copyright (c) 2025 Isadora Mandu Cardoso, Jhenicy Rubira Dias, Ivi Ribeiro Back, Thamires Fernandes Cardoso da Silva Rodrigues, Cremilde Aparecida Trindade Radovanovic, Roberta Tognollo Borotta Uema https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5632 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 The experience of pediatric surgery by children's companions regarding preoperative nursing guidelines http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5264
Introduction: Pediatric hospitalization is permeated by different aspects that directly influence the experience of the child and their companion. Objective: To identify the perception of children's companions regarding the preoperative period. This phenomenon, formalized by Viktor Frankl as noogenic neurosis, has its roots in the rise of rationality and Humanism. The main objective of this research is to analyze how the search for filling this void manifests itself in postmodern social structures. The methodology consisted of an interdisciplinary theoretical analysis, anchored in references from Contemporary Sociology and Philosophy, especially the works of Byung-Chul Han, Zygmunt Bauman, and Gilles Lipovetsky. The results demonstrate that emptiness is structured by the performance society, where self-exploitation and multitasking lead to exhaustion, and by liquid modernity, in which narcissism weakens relationships. The incessant search for identity and satisfaction in consumption and social doping only highlights and perpetuates the emptiness. It is concluded that overcoming this cycle requires a rediscovery of meaning that transcends the imperative of productivity and consumption.

Keywords: Existential Emptiness; Crisis of meaning; Narcissism; Liquid Modernity; Consumerism; Performance Society.
Wellington da Silva Rodrigues, Eliane Ramos Pereira, Rose Mary Costa Rosa Andrade Silva Copyright (c) 2025 Wellington da Silva Rodrigues, Eliane Ramos Pereira, Rose Mary Costa Rosa Andrade Silva https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5831 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Can Galleria mellonella be compared to mammalian models for in vivo assays? http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5700
Purpose: To conduct a systematic review on the use of Galleria mellonella as a non-mammalian model for in vivo studies and assess its potential as an analogue to mammalian models. Methods: This review followed PRISMA guidelines and its guiding question was: “Can G. mellonella be used as an analogue to mammalian models in biological assays?”, defined by PICOs strategy. Searches were conducted in PubMed, MEDLINE Ovid, Scopus, and Web of Science. Inclusion criteria were in vivo studies that performed the same assays in both G. mellonella and mammalian models, published as research articles in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Other insect models and reviews were excluded. Risk of bias was assessed using a modified SYRCLE tool. Results: Seven studies were included and their assays investigated virulence, antimicrobial efficacy, and toxicity in both G. mellonella and mammalian models. One study showed low risk of bias, five moderate risk, and one high risk. Comparable trends were observed for virulence and drug efficacy, although methodological heterogeneity limited direct comparisons. Conclusion: G. mellonella is a valuable preclinical model but cannot fully replace mammalian studies. Primary injuries caused by
trauma are found, but the primary goal is to prevent secondary brain injury, which is caused by
elevated intracranial pressure (ICP). The objective of this review was to determine possible
management and effects on reducing ICP in patients with severe TBI. A search for previous
articles was carried out on the PubMed and Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL)
platforms. The study included articles published in the last 5 years (2019-2024); controlled
clinical trials and observational studies and available free of charge. Articles that deviated from
the topic addressed and duplicates were excluded. At the end of the analysis, 17 scientific
articles were selected. The studies analyzed showed that ICP monitoring with non-conventional
devices, or through cerebral oxygenation pressure, partial pressure of carbon dioxide and
treatment with hypertonic saline or mannitol were the most effective in reducing ICP. Although
there are divergences regarding the intervention of elevated ICP, there is evidence that when it
is controlled, it changes the patient's prognosis, assuming an important role in clinical practice.
In conclusion, the most effective interventions were the use of partial pressure of carbon
dioxide, hypertonic saline and mannitol and early monitoring of cerebral oxygenation by
cerebral oxygenation pressure (PbtO2), emphasizing the need for ICP monitoring in order to
reduce mortality.

Keywords: Severe Traumatic Brain Injury; Intracranial Pressure; Management.
Anna Victória Coelho Andrade Delgado Fonseca, Vitor Moreira Alvarenga Copyright (c) 2025 Anna Victória Coelho Andrade Delgado Fonseca, Vitor Moreira Alvarenga https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5537 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Editorial V16 N4 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/6062 Editora Universidade de Vassouras Copyright (c) 2026 Editora Universidade de Vassouras https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/6062 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Expediente V16 N4 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/6022 Editora das Revistas da Universidade de Vassouras Copyright (c) 2025 Editora das Revistas da Universidade de Vassouras https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/6022 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Health training for the care of the transgender population: scoping review protocol http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5772
Introduction: The transgender population faces significant inequalities in access to health services, marked by structural, interpersonal, and institutional barriers that compromise the effectiveness of care. The study aims to identify the main impacts of emergency remote teaching offered during the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of nursing students. Materials and method: This is an integrative review study, guided by the question: "What are the impacts of emergency remote teaching on the mental health of nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic? The search was carried out in the Virtual Health Library and National Library of Medicine - PubMed, resulting in 8 articles after applying the filters and exclusion criteria. Results and discussion: Scientific evidence revealed that nursing students, due to emergency remote teaching, experienced unique challenges that directly impacted their emotional well-being, as they presented unpleasant feelings/sensations driven by social isolation, interruption of practical activities, lack of technological support, among others. Such feelings/sensations were: anxiety, stress, fear, overload, frustration, abandonment, worry, irritability, exhaustion, depression, discomfort, mental exhaustion and professional disqualification. Final considerations: offering/strengthening psychological and technical support, expanding technical simulation laboratories and curricular flexibility for supervised care practices are some strategies to be implemented by higher education institutions in order to ensure the development of the skills necessary for training. of nursing students who experienced the COVID-19 pandemic.

Keywords: Covid-19; Student; Nursing; Remote Education; Mental Health.
Joana Angélica Andrade Dias, Iana Sabrine Almeida da Silva, Flavia Pedro dos Anjos Santos, Zulmerinda Meira Oliveira, Ronney Pereira Cabral, Cortes De Jesus Copyright (c) 2025 Joana Angélica Andrade Dias, Iana Sabrine Almeida da Silva, Flavia Pedro dos Anjos Santos, Zulmerinda Meira Oliveira, Ronney Pereira Cabral, Alésia Cortes de Jesus https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5473 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Challenges in Nursing practice in the care of elderly people with Alzheimer's Disease – Narrative review http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5542
Alzheimer's Disease (AD), first described in 1906 by physician Alois Alzheimer, is characterized as the most common neurodegenerative disorder among the elderly, with risk increasing with age and a multifactorial origin. Among the professionals who play an important role in caring for patients affected by this condition are nurses. Thus, the present study aimed to discuss the main challenges faced by nursing professionals in this context through a narrative literature review conducted with scientific articles available in the databases of the Virtual Health Library (BVS), Scielo, and Google Scholar. The included studies highlight the level of knowledge about the disease, as well as the burden on professionals, as the greatest challenges faced. The pursuit of professional development is also presented as another factor discussed by the authors included in this review. Therefore, strengthening public policies that provide continuing education for these professionals, health education for family members, and space for discussion about the multiple nuances involved in the caregiving process emerges as a possible way to mitigate this issue.

Keywords: Elderly Care; Nursing Care; Occupational Stress.
Renan Felipe Pereira Gonçalves, Mariana Kublinski, Rodrigo Almeida Batista, Isaac Pereira Cravalheiro, Katiuscia de Oliveira Francisco Gabriel, Fernando Sluchensci dos Santos Copyright (c) 2025 Renan Felipe Pereira Gonçalves, Mariana Kublinski, Rodrigo Almeida Batista, Isaac Pereira Cravalheiro, Katiuscia de Oliveira Francisco Gabriel, Fernando Sluchensci dos Santos https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5542 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300 Advances in the treatment of childhood leukemia: new therapies to improve cure rates http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5280
Introduction: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most prevalent form of pediatric cancer, with a peak incidence between 2 and 5 years of age. Nowadays, it is no longer necessary to be a technology expert to recognize that the internet is fully integrated into everyday life. The exchange of experiences, the search for guidance and the sharing of information about child care have transformed social media into an important means of communication between groups of parents. In view of this need to understand how mothers seek and receive information about the use of fluoride, this research aimed to relate the efficacy and safety of the information received by mothers of children aged 0 to 4 years through social media about the use of fluorides. This is a cross-sectional study that was carried out through a questionnaire, elaborated on the Google Forms platform and distributed by the Whatsapp application to groups of mothers. In general, it was found that the inaccuracy of information about fluoride, disseminated through social media, compromises the mothers' discernment as to its authenticity. Maternal perception of fluoride shows a strong association with information disseminated on social networks. However, the guidance provided during regular visits to the dentist has an influence on the decision-making process regarding the veracity of the information.

Keywords: Disinformation; Fluoride; Social Media.
Vanêssa Fazoli, Carla Cristina Neves Barbosa, José Carlos Pettorossi Imparato, Danilo Antonio Duarte Copyright (c) 2025 Vanêssa Fazoli, Carla Cristina Neves Barbosa, José Carlos Pettorossi Imparato, Danilo Antonio Duarte https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 http://192.100.251.116/index.php/RPU/article/view/5811 Sat, 31 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0300
