Abstract

To assess the pregnant woman's diet and its relationship with the development of the child's food preferences, as well as its influence on oral health. This is a scoping review based on the databases PubMed, CAPES, Scientific Electronic Library (Scielo), Google Scholar, and Scopus, using the descriptors Pregnancy diet, Flavor, Newborn, Breastfeeding, Nutrition, Pediatric Dentistry, combined with the Boolean operators AND and OR. Articles that addressed the guiding research question and were written in English, Spanish, and Portuguese were included. Duplicates, letters, editorials, dissertations, theses, and guidelines were excluded. A total of 109 articles were identified, with 27 selected for the study. The investigation shows a clear knowledge gap on the topic, suggesting that the pregnant woman's diet influences the formation of the child's food preferences; however, it does not clarify the repercussions for oral health. The mapping of evidence related to the topic does not accurately establish the association between the pregnant woman's diet, the baby's food preferences, and the impact on oral health. Therefore, it is relevant to conduct multiple studies that answer the guiding question and support public policies aimed at the mother/child dyad.
