Health training for the care of the transgender population: scoping review protocol

Authors

Abstract

Introduction: The transgender population faces significant inequalities in access to health services, marked by structural, interpersonal, and institutional barriers that compromise the effectiveness of care. The lack of specific training for health professionals exacerbates these disparities, reinforcing the need for inclusive and ongoing educational strategies. This study aims to map and synthesize the literature on the training of health professionals to care for the transgender population. Materials and methods: A scoping review protocol based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, the PRISMA-ScR checklist, and the PAGER Framework acronym was used and registered on the OSF platform. The research question was defined using the PCC mnemonic. The search will cover databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, SciELO, Cochrane, and Lilacs, with no time restrictions, and will include gray literature in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Expected results: The aim is to provide a comprehensive overview of health training for the care of the transgender population, identifying knowledge gaps, pedagogical strategies, and barriers, supporting more inclusive curricula, public policies, and practices that promote equity.
