Introduction: the nursing team that is on the front line of combating the Covid-19 pandemic is faced with difficulties in the process of caring for infected patients, which list a range of factors that favor the presence of mental suffering. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the possible factors that trigger mental suffering in the nursing team of a hospital in the city of Colinas/MA in the face of the covid-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: The study is an exploratory, descriptive investigation with a qualitative approach, from a hospital in the city of Colinas/MA, with the participation of professional nurses and nursing technicians. The study population consisted of 51 professionals. Data collection took place between January and February 2022, through semi-structured interviews. Laurence Bardin's Content Analysis method was used. Results: 25 nursing professionals participated in the study, predominantly female 64%, between 31 and 40 years old 44%. The most predominant professional category was Nursing Technicians 72%. Discussion: the main stress factors mentioned by health professionals, in the fight against covid-19, identified in the participants' statements were: limited knowledge about prevention and control of the virus; increase in the number of confirmed and suspected cases; overcrowded; shortage of PPE; lack of beds to care for patients; lack of specific medicines. Final Considerations: the nursing team went through moments that generated major changes in the work context, changes considered exponential factors for bio psychosocial exhaustion, commonly evidenced on a large scale in the literature.
