Iron deficiency is a nutritional condition that has been shown to be very detrimental to growth, development and body homeostasis. It is most relevant during childhood, a period in which the greatest maturation of the body's systems occurs, and ends up having a direct impact on children's daily lives, causing harm to their quality of life. The objective of this study is to present all the different forms of presentation of this nutritional deficiency in children and to emphasize the importance of appropriate management to solve the problem in question. Through the analyses observed from searches of previous studies in the PubMed and BVS databases, 25 scientific articles that fit the study parameters were selected, highlighting the different forms of management and preparation for the treatment of the deficiency, and its side effects. In addition, prophylactic measures were discussed, which are already implemented in the first moments of life. In view of this, it is concluded that effective and well-adhered therapy, in addition to collective health programs, have proven to be valuable for reducing new cases.
Key words: Iron Deficience; Anemia; Pediatric.
