Suicide attempt care: experience report and reflections of a nurse in an Emergency Care Unit

Abstract

This article is an experience report on the care of a patient in an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in a city in the middle Paraíba region, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, from the perspective of a nurse, an integral member of the unit's health team. The objective of the study is to discuss suicide and attempted suicide, and the relationship of the health team in welcoming and caring for people who wish to end their lives. The patient in question was cared for in September 2020. Suicide is a current and relevant topic with the growing number of cases in Brazil. With this study, we intend to open space for new discussions and learning about the topic, in order to always renew knowledge.
