The aim of this study is to reflect on some factors related to women's health during the postpartum period and their repercussions on the impacts of negligence in postpartum care. This is a theoretical-reflective study that seeks to discuss maternal and child health care during the postpartum period. To discuss the topic, searches were conducted on the Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library and the Scientific Electronic Library Online. The following descriptors were used: nursing; postpartum; postpartum care; negligence and psychosocial changes. In addition to the physical and emotional needs of the newly born woman, the psychosocial changes during the postpartum period can lead some women to an extreme state of emotional instability. Feelings and sensations are immense, everything is uncomfortable, and women believe they have lost their intellectual, rational and social capacity for coexistence. They are incapable of making simple decisions about their own domestic routines and live within the baby-world. In summary, it is essential to recognize that the postpartum period, in addition to being a period of physical recovery, is also a time of emotional and social adaptation, with potential impacts on the woman's mental health.
