Scientific Evidence of the Impact of Covid-19 on the Mental Health of University Students

To prevent the spread of Covid-19 in schools and universities, the Ministry of Education implemented a series of measures. Among them, the suspension of in-person academic activities stands out, with the aim of reducing gatherings that could facilitate the transmission of the virus. These actions caused significant repercussions in academic life, as well as distressing experiences that negatively affected the physical and psychological health of university students. This study aims to analyze scientific evidence on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the mental health of university students. It is an integrative literature review, conducted following the stages of data reduction, data display, data comparison, conclusion drawing, and verification. The research was carried out using the MEDLINE, LILACS, BDENF, and IBECS databases through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), and, for a more qualified selection of articles, the SciELO repository was also used. Out of the 557 articles identified, 11 were selected to compose this review. An increase in levels of anxiety, depression, stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder was observed among university students following the pandemic. In this context, investments in mental health interventions directed at students become imperative, considering that the impacts of the pandemic continue to reverberate through various aspects of their daily lives, compromising their quality of life.
