University Extension as a Strategy for Critical and Humanized Nursing Education: an experience report

Authors

Abstract

This article reports the teaching experience in conducting the extension course "Nursing Care in Collective and Family Health" at a private university in the state of Rio de Janeiro during the first semester of 2025. The course aimed to provide meaningful experiences integrating theory and practice, bringing Nursing students closer to the social realities of local territories and the challenges of health promotion in Primary Health Care (PHC). Three educational actions developed by student groups were described, targeting school-aged children, caregivers in a shelter institution, and women in a religious community. The experience demonstrated that university extension strengthens the ethical, civic, and humanized education of future Nursing professionals.
