Abstract

Introduction: This study seeks to map the scientific literature on knowledge, attitudes and professional practices related to perinatal grief. Materials & Methods: scoping review, using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and the PRISMA-ScR checklist, in the VHL, MEDLINE via PubMed and Scopus databases. Results: Of a total of 596 articles identified in the searched databases, 12 were selected for inclusion in this study. The categorization of articles encompassed two main groups: 1) professionals' knowledge and attitudes towards perinatal grief, highlighting perceptions and challenges related to perinatal grief and 2) practices recommended for professionals towards perinatal grief. Discussion: Healthcare professionals face challenges when dealing with neonatal loss, unwittingly sharing parents' feelings and lacking opportunities to process these emotions. Final Considerations: The study highlights the imperative need to improve training, support and institutional practices to better meet the needs of families faced with perinatal losses, providing technical and psychosocial support to the professionals involved.
