Nurse Interventions for Children and Families with Autistic Spectrum Disorder Based on Peplau

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is described as a disorder that is characterized by an atypical development, difficulties in communication and social interaction, presence of repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, in addition to a restricted repertoire of interests and activities. Objective To identify how the first contact is made and difficulties between the nursing professional and the child with autism spectrum disorder and family members and to describe the possibilities of nursing interventions that the professional uses when approaching the family and the child with autism spectrum disorder. Method This is a literature review of qualitative methods, research tools were used on the Virtual Health Library platform. IBECS, BDENF, LILACS whose descriptors were Autism Spectrum Disorder, Nursing Care, Child, from May to June 2023. Results Important information related to the topic was addressed, where all considerations about the autism spectrum disorder had priority, the experiences of family members and highlighting the theoretical contribution of Hildegard Peplau seeking to bring scientific articles that demonstrate plausible research on ASD. Conclusion Due to the increasing prevalence of ASD, it is crucial that health professionals are well informed and trained to understand the peculiarities of this condition and provide an appropriate and sensitive approach to affected individuals. The training of health professionals in this area is essential to ensure quality care and a better quality of life for children with ASD and their families.
