Abstract

The health of the black population demands special attention in the field of health training. Therefore, promoting racial equity in health training is an essential step. By integrating these principles and practices, there will be improvements in care for the black population, but also the strengthening of the health system as a whole, promoting social justice and human dignity for all. This study sought to reflect on the importance of including topics related to the health of the black population in health course curricula, identifying gaps and proposing strategies for building training that promotes racial equity. This was a theoretical-reflective study, developed based on an exploratory literature review and qualitative approach. The results are presented in two stages: the first reflecting on the gaps in the approach to the health of the black population; and the second, proposing strategies for training in health courses that promote racial equity. It is essential that future professionals understand how structural racism affects the health of the black population, leading to substantial differences in health indicators. The incorporation of issues related to the health of the black population in health course curricula is vital for the training of qualified professionals dedicated to promoting racial equity. Recognizing and filling existing gaps, together with the adoption of effective strategies, can significantly contribute to reducing health inequalities and improving the care provided to black communities.
